3 Things to stop doing on social

I tend to talk a lot about what to do on social media so it’s time for a what not to do.

Stop overthinking and over editing every post

With every time you re-write a post, it loses personality. Here’s the truth: people will notice if you have errors in your grammar and punctuation, but other than that? Your audience won’t notice much else. They are there for great content that they understand and can digest quickly. So here’s my advice: write the post, wait 24 hours or so, tweak and proof it as needed, and post it.

Stop being boring

Are you predictable? Does your audience always know what’s coming up next from your page? Sometimes we get so attached to our brand that posting something “different” feels like it’s wrong. It’s not wrong at all, it makes your page more human! Even if you have an extremely professional brand, you’re the expert in a certain area and people look up to you for that, is that ALL you are? No. Show some personality.

Stop comparing yourself to other accounts

This probably should be its own blog post. Listen to me. STOP comparing your account to your favorite account on social. As a social media manager, it frustrates me when a client says they want to look like someone else because there is only so much I can do. Why? Because YOU ARE NOT SOMEONE ELSE. You can refine your look, change your filter, change up your captions, but at the end of the day, you have to own who YOU are and stay in your lane.
