Typically when social platforms get new updates, people freak out and their initial reaction is to hate it because we don’t like unexpected change. But so far, the new Instagram update is being very well received. None of the changes were too noticeable, but overall, I can already say that I am a fan.
Dark Mode
Users with IOS 13 now have the option to enable Dark Mode on Instagram, which helps your eyes in low-light conditions. Dark Mode is a feature you probably didn’t know you needed, but once you try it, your eyes will thank you.
No more micro-stalking
The “Following” tab is GONE! You probably either didn’t use this tab or didn’t know it existed, which is exactly why IG got rid of it. People went as far as calling it micro-stalking, which is true because you were able to see what other people were liking and commenting on. Is that really necessary?
Remove followers
But why would I want to remove followers when I work so hard to grow that number? There are three main reasons you’d want to remove followers: creepers, judgy family and friends, and spam accounts. IG cares way more about your engagement rating than your number of followers. Spam accounts just exist and don’t actually engage with your page, so you’d help your account by removing spam.
Gifs in stories
FINALLY we can use gifs in our IG stories. It’s about time since gifs are taking over the internet and frankly, sometimes what we cannot say with words, we can say with gifs.
Coming soon? In-depth hashtag analytics
Before, you were able to see how many impressions a post received from hashtags, but it didn’t tell you which hashtags exactly. This is a feature that some accounts have and some do not. While I am not one of the lucky ones, at least I know it’s on the horizon, and that’s amazing news for us social media nerds!
I’d love to know – which of these features are you most excited about?
