Shark Tank is one of my favorite shows for a number of reasons. Often times, entrepreneurs come in with groundbreaking, impressive inventions asking for huge investments. Other times, it’s something as simple as putting your face on a potato (Potato Parcel) or a Toilet Timer (Katamco), both of which secured a deal with a shark.
It’s such a good reminder that we don’t need earth shattering inventions to create a wildly successful business. So often we brush off our ideas thinking that they are “too small” or why bother if someone else is probably already doing it?
But you have to start somewhere and remember that where you start is probably not where you will end. We’re used to seeing the end result, the product that finally took off and became a company’s claim to fame. What we don’t see is the dozen other products that came before it and flopped.
My point here is that you have to start somewhere just to get the ball rolling. You’re training your mind to start thinking outside the box, to work towards a different type of goal. All of that work is practice for when the right idea DOES gain momentum, but if you don’t try, you’ll never know what that idea is.
