Are you pursuing YOUR goal or someone else’s?

When you started your business, you had some sort of ideal in mind. For me, I wanted to work from home. I wanted the flexibility of working when I wanted to. Working 8 hours straight in an office was really hard for my focus and made me less productive. I also wanted to increase my income potential and I knew that wasn’t possible in my current situation. I’m sure you have similar goals in mind, but are they YOUR goals?

In network marketing, it’s common to have goals suggested to you like sales, rank, special achievements/bonuses. All of those goals are a great thing but there comes a point where you should ask – is this MY goal or is it someone else’s (like your upline)?

I had a moment like this recently where I was pushing really hard for a goal but felt completely burnt out and stressed. In fact, it made me feel less-than every time I was reminded I hadn’t hit it. I realized it wasn’t really a goal I wanted for myself. Rather, it was a goal someone told me I should want and therefore I felt the need to pursue it.

While it might be hard to set boundaries and communicate your true goals and desires to others, especially when it is someone “above” you, if you aren’t excited about what you are working towards, you’ll end up burnt out.

Ultimately, YOU DO YOU. Go for the rank, bonus, sales, whatever it might be as long as you know it’s what you want. That deeper desire is what will help you push through the difficulties and make the victory that much sweeter.
