How to stay productive on the weekend

One of the nice things about working a traditional 9-5 is that *some* companies don’t allow you to work after hours and on the weekend. However, if you know my story, you know my last 9-5 was the exact opposite of that which was a reason I wanted to work for myself. I wanted to control the hours. I’m curious to know, does your work place allow working after hours or overtime?

If you are working a side-hustle or full-time self-employed like I am, the weekend is a tricky thing. Part of you is so used to working that you naturally feel like you should be productive and work. The other part of you wants rest. There’s nothing wrong with either of those desires but I do think it’s important to prioritize rest.

I like doing a little work on the weekend because it makes me feel like I’m getting a head start on the new week. I like knowing what I have coming up and being adequately prepared. I keep a to-do list on the weekend just like I would during the week but it’s shorter and I also add non-work stuff to it. For example, I might add “work on puzzle” or “try to take a nap.” This way, I’m really prioritizing mental breaks and rest in addition to responding to emails or something work-related.

Here are some work-related tasks that can help you stay productive on the weekend:

  • Write out your calendar for the upcoming week
  • Reflect on what went well or poorly from the past week
  • Schedule social media content
  • Schedule an email to your list
  • Take 15 minutes per account to grow your following or engage with existing followers
  • Watch a training while doing something else like cleaning or laundry

Here are some non-work related things that can help you get rest on the weekend:

  • Take a bath with Netflix
  • Take a nap (or if you’re like me, just try…I can’t nap)
  • Do a 10-20 minute stretching workout video (ask me if you need recommendations)
  • Organize your closet. This sounds stressful, but it’s a good mental break from work.
  • Watch a movie WITHOUT technology nearby
  • Play games with your family

Now go make a list and combine some of these tasks for the upcoming weekend! Good luck!
